It's no wonder stylists at Martha Stewart Living turn to the Sweet Life for inspiration - the atmosphere looks like a Hollywood movie set. Old-fashioned bulk-candy bins lining the walls overflow with childhood delights like malted-milk balls, Bing cherries and nonpareils. The owners stock many of the same European imports found on Madison Avenue, but this Lower East Side shop offers them for almost half the price;everything ranges between $3.99 and $17 per pound. A tray of free samples is filled with the duo's own homemade milk and dark chocolates, typically loaded with nuts or cloaking a slice of dried fruit- don't pass up the dipped orange slices or Turkish apricots. For Valentine's Day, the Sweet Life offers standard fare such as chocolate roses and champagne flavored gumdrops, but here you can definately get more for your money-and your honey.

Best Candy Store - The Sweet Life
Some twenty years ago, the Sweet Life opened in the heart of the Lower East Side. An adorable candy store that has decidedly offbeat offerings: milk chocolate Band Aids, a Bible Bar containing the seven foods of Deuteronomy (wheat, barley, raisins, honey, figs, pomegranites, and olive oil), traditionally salty Dutch Licorice and Turkish Delight.
