The Jolly Rancher Candy Company was founded in Golden, Colorado, by Bill and Dorothy Harmsen in 1949. Looking for a way to suggest hospitality and emphasize their Western roots, they named the company “Jolly Rancher.” Their original company focused on ice cream but, in time, their focus changed and they devoted their energy exclusively to hard candy.
